Tinubu Praises Wike’s FCT Reforms, Says Abuja Is Experiencing Renewed Development Drive
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as significant improvements in infrastructure development and governance within Abuja.
The President said the FCT has witnessed visible transformation under Wike’s leadership, highlighting the completion and inauguration of several projects as evidence of renewed attention to the nation’s capital.
Tinubu made the remarks while praising the minister’s efforts in delivering infrastructure projects, improving public services and boosting the morale of civil servants working within the FCT administration.
The President’s commendation followed the inauguration of 31 completed projects attributed to the FCT administration, covering areas such as road construction, public facilities and urban development.
According to the presidency, the projects are part of efforts to improve infrastructure, enhance connectivity and raise the standard of living for residents of the capital territory.
Tinubu said the administration would continue to support initiatives aimed at modernising Abuja and ensuring that the city reflects its status as Nigeria’s political and administrative centre.
Speaking on the development, Wike acknowledged the support of the President and the cooperation of stakeholders in achieving the projects.
The minister has repeatedly stated that his administration’s focus is on delivering visible infrastructure, restoring public confidence and addressing long-standing development challenges within the FCT.
Since assuming office as FCT minister in 2023, Wike has prioritised road rehabilitation, urban renewal, improved sanitation and the completion of abandoned projects.
The administration’s activities in Abuja have attracted both praise and criticism.
Supporters of the FCT minister argue that the pace of project delivery represents a significant improvement in the capital territory’s infrastructure development.
However, some residents and critics have raised concerns over issues including the impact of demolitions, rising costs of living in some areas and the need for development to extend beyond major city centres into satellite towns and less-developed communities.
Urban development experts have noted that while infrastructure projects are important, sustainable growth in the FCT also requires attention to housing affordability, transportation systems, environmental management and inclusive planning.
They argue that the long-term success of Abuja’s development will depend not only on the number of projects completed but also on how effectively those projects improve the daily lives of residents.
As Nigeria’s political capital, developments in the Federal Capital Territory often serve as a reflection of government priorities and administrative effectiveness.
President Tinubu’s praise of Wike highlights the administration’s confidence in its FCT development strategy, while ongoing public discussions show the importance of ensuring that infrastructure growth translates into broader benefits for all Abuja residents.
