The wife of the Olu of Warri, Olori Ivie Atuwatse III, has said she is confident that her husband, Ogiame Atuwatse III, will not change his decision to remain in a monogamous marriage.

The queen consort made the statement during an interview with BBC News Pidgin published on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, where she spoke about her marriage, her role in the palace, personal style and other aspects of her life as a royal.

Asked what she would do if the Olu of Warri changed his mind about polygamy, Atuwatse dismissed the possibility, maintaining that the monarch had no intention of taking another wife.

“Firstly, His Majesty no go fit change him mind about polygamy. Make we just settle that one for there. Me alone, one me, I be like three women, so I dey alright for am,” she said.

Her comment comes months after the Olu of Warri addressed the issue during a separate BBC Pidgin interview in January 2026.

The monarch had explained that although polygamy has historically been associated with some traditional rulers, he had chosen to remain married to one woman.

“God did not give me that grace,” the monarch said at the time, explaining that the responsibilities attached to the throne already placed significant demands on his time.

He added that maintaining peace within his home and spending time with his family were important considerations in his decision.

Speaking about her marriage, Atuwatse said one of the things she enjoys most is seeing people celebrate her husband’s achievements.

“The thing wey I like about being married to His Majesty is that, all the fame or the popularity wey him get, na say I get to see the world celebrate his genius, his swag also, cos me too I dey celebrate am. And when the world dey celebrate am, e dey ginger me more,” she said.

However, the queen acknowledged that the demands of royal duties can sometimes make it difficult for the couple to spend as much time together as they would like.

Atuwatse, who is a lawyer by training, also discussed her fashion choices, particularly her signature turban.

She dismissed suggestions that her position as queen consort had limited her ability to express herself through fashion, saying her decision to cover her hair was personal and also connected to her respect for the royal office.

“My dressing is how I like it. People ask me why I dey cover my hair. My turban na my crown, na so I dey see am,” she said.

She added, “Anytime I dey in Queen mode, I like to dey cover my hair to just give respect to di office wey I get, and I no feel say I dey restricted.”

The queen also revealed that she sometimes plays the role of stylist to her husband, joking about how they coordinate their appearances.

“You want make I tell you secret? I be my husband stylist,” she said.

On politics, Atuwatse said she had no personal ambition to seek political office.

She nevertheless encouraged women who are interested in politics to pursue their ambitions, stressing the importance of self-confidence for women seeking leadership positions.

Atuwatse and the Olu of Warri got married in 2014 and have three children.

The monarch ascended the throne as the 21st Olu of Warri in August 2021, succeeding his uncle, Ogiame Ikenwoli.

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has revealed that the break he took from music activities this year was triggered by the death of his mother.

The singer, who is also known as Vado D’Great, disclosed that his absence was not connected to work on a new album, contrary to speculation among some of his fans.

Kizz Daniel made the clarification on Friday while responding to a fan on X who had assumed that the singer’s reduced music activities were because he was busy preparing an album.

Responding to the comment, Kizz Daniel explained that he had stepped back from music following the loss of his mother earlier this year.

He said he had to return to his responsibilities and continue moving forward for the sake of the rest of his family.
