Tinubu Unveils APC 2027 Campaign Council, Names Yari DG, Uzodimma Secretary
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally activated the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign machinery for the 2027 presidential election, appointing former Zamfara State Governor and Senator Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council.
The composition of the council, announced by the Presidency on Saturday, August 22, marks a major step in the ruling party’s preparations for the January 2027 presidential election, with Tinubu expected to seek a second term.
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary of the campaign council.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Under the structure, Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will be Vice-Chairman I. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice-Chairman II.
Yari Takes Charge of APC Presidential Campaign
The appointment of Yari as Director-General places the former Zamfara governor at the centre of the APC’s presidential campaign operations.
Yari, a former governor and serving senator, is expected to coordinate the party’s campaign structures, mobilisation efforts and political strategy as the APC prepares for a highly competitive 2027 election.
His appointment also brings an experienced political operator into the leadership of the campaign at a time when the ruling party is seeking to consolidate its position nationally.
Uzodimma’s appointment as secretary equally gives the Progressive Governors Forum a significant role in the campaign’s organisational structure.
The APC leadership has also appointed Senator Ajibola Bashiru, the party’s National Secretary, as Deputy Secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Assistant Secretary.
Tinubu will work with an advisory team comprising several prominent figures within the APC and the wider political establishment.
Those named include former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.
The structure reflects an attempt to bring together experienced political figures from different generations and regions as the party prepares for the election.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were also assigned senior campaign responsibilities as deputy director-generals for the northern and southern zones.
They will work alongside Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau in the campaign structure.
Oshiomhole, Gbajabiamila, Faleke Get Key Roles
The campaign council also gives prominent roles to several influential APC figures.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole was appointed Deputy Director-General for mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will serve as Deputy Director-General for Administration.
James Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring.
Faleke will work with zonal directors covering the six geopolitical zones.
They include Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.
Stella Okotete, Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori were named secretaries of the election planning directorate. Muiz Banire, SAN, will head the legal directorate, supported by Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala as deputies.
The media and strategic communication structure is also prominent in the campaign council.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris will serve as Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication, working with Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka were named coordinating deputy directors.
Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Temitope Ajayi, Aderonke Arabirin and Frederick Nwabufo will serve as coordinating secretaries.
The party has also brought back Segun Dada as Director of New Media, a position he occupied during the 2022/2023 presidential campaign, with Solomon Arowolo serving as secretary.
Five spokespersons were also named, with Dele Alake leading the team alongside Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
The emphasis on media and digital operations reflects the increasingly important role of social media, online mobilisation and strategic communications in Nigerian elections.
While the initial announcement was widely described in some reports as a 108-man campaign council, subsequent publication of the expanded membership list indicates that the full structure contains 223 members and includes additional directorates covering areas such as finance, extractive industries, education, manufacturing and MSMEs, faith-based mobilisation, labour relations, grassroots engagement, digital operations and welfare.
The expanded structure therefore goes beyond the principal officers initially announced and provides a broader organisational framework for the APC’s nationwide campaign.
In charging members of the council, President Tinubu urged them to work towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 presidential election.
The President’s message also reveals the central campaign strategy the ruling party is likely to adopt: defending its record in office and presenting its economic reforms and other policies as evidence of progress.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu told members that the administration had delivered on its campaign promises and placed Nigeria on a path towards economic progress.
He urged the campaign team to communicate the administration’s achievements to voters and counter opposition narratives that could threaten the party’s re-election bid.
The President also directed members of the campaign council to reach out to APC members who were not formally listed, indicating that the campaign structure is intended to operate beyond the names contained in the official list.
The constitution of the APC Presidential Campaign Council signals that the 2027 presidential contest has moved from early political positioning into a more organised campaign phase.
The development comes as opposition parties and political coalitions are also strengthening their structures ahead of the election.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is contesting under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Peter Obi is also positioning himself for another presidential bid.
The opposition landscape has therefore become increasingly competitive, with questions surrounding coalition-building, defections, regional alliances, economic performance and voter sentiment expected to dominate the political conversation ahead of the election.
For the APC, the immediate challenge will be translating the strength of its incumbency and political structures into electoral support while defending the Tinubu administration’s record on the economy, security, infrastructure and social welfare.
For the opposition, the task will be to convince voters that it can offer a credible alternative to the ruling party.
The 2027 presidential election is consequently shaping up as a contest not only between individual candidates but also between competing narratives about Nigeria’s economic direction, governance and political future.

2027: Osun APC Unveils Parallel Campaign Council, Excludes Adeleke’s Team
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted a 168-member campaign council to coordinate its efforts towards securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, alongside victories for the party’s National and State Assembly candidates.
The move has exposed divisions within the party over the composition and leadership of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council inaugurated by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has maintained that his political cooperation with the APC is limited to supporting Tinubu’s re-election.
In a statement issued on Monday in Osogbo, the Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, said the newly constituted council was designed to strengthen the party’s campaign structure and coordinate mobilisation activities across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lawal explained that the council comprised selected party leaders, candidates and other stakeholders expected to mobilise support for the APC and its candidates.
Under the arrangement, the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, was named Director-General of the campaign council, while Lawal will serve as Deputy Director-General.
Benjamin Adereti, who served as Oyebamiji’s running mate in the last governorship election, and Kehinde Olamolu were appointed Assistant Directors-General 1 and 2, respectively.
The council also includes the three APC senatorial candidates and the party’s nine House of Representatives candidates.
Other prominent members are former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Foluke Etteh; former deputy governors Adeleke Adewoyin, Iyiola Omisore, Titi Laoye-Ponnle and Adegboyega Alabi; retired General Alani Akinrinade; Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode; and the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi.
Explaining the decision to establish the council, Lawal said it followed the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council by President Tinubu in Abuja on October 14, 2026, and the subsequent inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council by Adeleke on October 22.
He said the state party leadership considered it necessary to strengthen the existing campaign structure to ensure Tinubu’s re-election and secure victories for APC candidates seeking seats in the National and State Assemblies.
According to the statement, the party remains committed to working with members of the state presidential campaign council while mobilising support for all its candidates.
The emergence of the separate campaign council comes amid disagreements over the presidential campaign structure inaugurated by Adeleke.
The governor, who is associated with the Accord Party, was appointed coordinator of the Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council in Osun State.
The October 22 inauguration attracted several political figures, including APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru; former Osun governor, Bisi Akande; and former deputy governors Iyiola Omisore and Titi Laoye-Ponnle.
However, some influential APC figures, including former Osun governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola; Oyebamiji; and Lawal, were absent from the event.
Following the inauguration, Lawal expressed dissatisfaction with the composition of the council, alleging that the Osun APC leadership was not consulted before its formation.
The latest development underscores the political disagreements within the Osun APC over the control and coordination of Tinubu’s re-election campaign, with the party leadership now establishing a separate structure to accommodate its candidates and stakeholders.

ADC South-West Denies Crisis, Reaffirms Support for Atiku Ahead of 2027
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership in the South-West has dismissed reports of an internal leadership crisis in the region, reaffirming its support for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The zonal leadership also denied reports that it held a virtual meeting with Atiku on September 5, 2026, to resolve an alleged disagreement within the party, describing the claims as false and fabricated.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the South-West National Vice Chairman, Akin Omole, alongside the six state chairmen, the party maintained that there was no division or leadership disagreement within its regional structure.
“There is no rift, division or leadership crisis within ADC South-West,” the statement declared.
The leaders said the zonal leadership and state chairmen remained united and committed to strengthening the party’s structures and securing electoral victories across the region.
They also expressed confidence in Atiku’s leadership and political experience, pledging to work with the party’s national leadership to ensure victory in the 2027 elections.
“We fully support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate. We recognise his leadership, political experience and national vision, and remain committed to working closely with him, the National Working Committee, National Chairman Senator David Mark, National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and other stakeholders to deliver a historic victory in 2027,” the statement partly read.
The South-West leadership further reaffirmed its confidence in Aregbesola’s political coordination in the region, stressing that consultations among party stakeholders should not be mistaken for signs of internal disagreement.
Explaining the circumstances surrounding the reported crisis, the party said a meeting held in Ibadan on September 4, 2026, was organised to develop strategies for strengthening its structures and improving its electoral chances across the South-West.
According to the statement, discussions at the meeting centred on political strategy, grassroots mobilisation, stakeholder engagement and organisational coordination.
The leaders insisted that the gathering was neither organised against Atiku nor intended to undermine the national leadership or any individual within the party.
“It was not a meeting against the presidential candidate, the national leadership or any individual within the party,” they said.
The party also categorically rejected reports that a virtual meeting with Atiku took place the following day to address an alleged leadership crisis.
“The ADC South-West leadership categorically states that there was no virtual meeting with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on 5th September 2026.
Any claim that such a meeting took place, or that it was held to resolve an alleged internal crisis, is false and fabricated,” the statement added.
Describing the reports as an attempt by political opponents to create divisions within its ranks, the leadership urged party members and supporters to disregard what it termed misleading and divisive narratives.
It maintained that there was no disagreement, hostility or division between the South-West leadership and the party’s presidential candidate.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we stand solidly with our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. There is no disagreement, hostility or division between the South-West leadership and our presidential candidate,” it stated.
The zonal leadership explained that political consultations and strategic meetings were normal activities within a growing political party and should be regarded as efforts to strengthen the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
It added that the zonal leadership, state chairmen, candidates and other stakeholders remained united in their commitment to the party’s electoral success.
The statement further disclosed that the ADC was intensifying grassroots mobilisation, voter engagement, membership expansion and the consolidation of its political structures across the six South-West states.
The party said its objective was to secure victories for its candidates in the presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly elections in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states.
It urged members, supporters and the general public not to be distracted by reports allegedly designed to create suspicion and weaken the party’s unity.
The renewed declaration of support comes as political parties intensify efforts to consolidate their structures, build alliances and manage internal alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC has increasingly positioned itself as a platform for opposition political consultations, with its national leadership and presidential campaign structure expected to coordinate mobilisation efforts across the country.
The South-West remains a politically significant region in Nigeria’s electoral contest, with its six states considered important to the prospects of political parties seeking national power.
Reiterating its commitment to the party’s presidential candidate, the South-West leadership declared that it remained united and determined to deliver electoral victories for Atiku and other ADC candidates in 2027.
“ADC is united. There is no rift. There is no division. We are working together to deliver the South-West for Atiku Abubakar and all ADC candidates in 2027. One party. One family. One mission. Victory in 2027,” the statement concluded.

Otti Retains Deputy Governor Emetu as Running Mate, Flags Off 2027 Campaign
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has retained his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, as the Labour Party officially flagged off its re-election campaign in Umuahia on Sunday.
Otti announced the decision at the campaign flag-off, where he called on Abians to renew his mandate for another four years to consolidate the achievements of his administration.
The governor said his administration, if re-elected, would focus on expanding development through policies and investment decisions aimed at positioning Abia State to take advantage of opportunities in the emerging economic order.
According to him, the next four years would be dedicated to consolidating the gains recorded across various sectors of the state’s economy and pursuing further development.
Reflecting on his political journey, Otti said his administration’s ambition had always been to restore hope and rebuild governance institutions in the state.
“At inception twelve years ago, we came to you with a message of hope, a commitment to lead the democratic crusade for the souls of our dear state. We never deterred in our commitment because, like us, you have also borne the shame and frustration of governance failure, institutional collapse, and the misery of living like a conquered population,” he said.
He described Abia as being ready for a new political system that prioritises the welfare and development of citizens above political interests.
The governor added that the state had moved beyond years of governance challenges following the Labour Party’s victory in the 2023 governorship election.
“After the man-made disappointments of 2015 and 2019, this siege was broken in 2023, and in a little over three years, thick clouds of despair have parted, a long nightmare has ended, and the light of renewal, restoration and prosperity has risen over our dear state,” Otti said.
Reviewing his administration’s performance, the governor expressed confidence that a fresh mandate in the February 6, 2027 governorship election would enable his government to deliver more development.
“With a fresh mandate in the February 6, 2027, governorship elections, we shall raise the bar even higher and set Abia on the path of irreversible progress through bold leadership, investments in factor assets, and multilevel partnership for prosperity,” he stated.
Otti also assured opposition political parties of access to public facilities for their campaign activities, insisting that his administration would not tolerate the restriction of legitimate political activities.
He said opposition parties could use public facilities, including the stadium, provided they applied, obtained the necessary approvals and complied with established regulations.
“The beauty of democracy is the plurality of options it offers all of us, which is why this administration made it clear that the rascality of years to years will have no place in Abia State anymore,” he said.
The governor further directed security agencies to arrest anyone attempting to disrupt or obstruct the legitimate campaign activities of political parties.
Addressing security operatives, he stressed that they had no instruction from him to attack individuals or prevent opposition parties from campaigning.
He, however, urged political parties to focus their campaigns on issues affecting residents rather than engaging in personal attacks.
Otti said Abia had moved beyond campaigns based solely on the payment of salaries and pensions, road construction and urban sanitation, urging political actors to present broader development plans to the electorate.
Explaining his decision to retain Emetu, the governor described the invitation to join him for another term as an effort to consolidate the administration’s achievements.
He said both men would contest under the Labour Party platform, with the objective of moving governance from the rescue phase to consolidation.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party State Chairman, Peter Azubuike, expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2027 elections, declaring that it was prepared to win all elective positions in Abia.
“LP is out to win and will clear all elections in Abia. It is LP all the way, as no opposition party is existing in the state,” Azubuike said.
Also speaking, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, represented by the Deputy National Chairman, Nuhu Mohammed, described the event as more than a campaign launch, saying it was an opportunity to strengthen support for the governor.
He urged Abians to support Otti, whom he described as a leader with impeccable integrity.
Earlier, during the church service preceding the campaign flag-off, the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, Chibuzo Opoko, and Emma Okorie of the Living Word Ministry offered prayers for the success of the forthcoming governorship election.
