Ignore Fake Recruitment Update, Nigeria Customs Service Warns Nigerians
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has cautioned Nigerians against a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media and other online platforms, urging members of the public to rely only on official communication channels for authentic recruitment information.
The Service described the viral message as false and misleading, warning job seekers not to fall victim to fraudsters who exploit fake employment opportunities.
In a statement, the NCS said it had not commenced any recruitment exercise beyond officially announced processes and advised Nigerians to disregard any unauthorised advertisements or messages claiming otherwise.
The Service stressed that all recruitment announcements are published through its verified platforms and credible national media.
It also warned that no individual or third party has been authorised to recruit personnel on its behalf.
The Customs Service advised prospective applicants to verify any recruitment information before taking action or making payments.
It reiterated that its recruitment process is transparent and does not require candidates to pay any fee at any stage.
The agency also urged members of the public to report suspicious recruitment messages or individuals demanding money in exchange for employment opportunities.
Fake recruitment advertisements have become a recurring challenge in Nigeria, with fraudsters targeting unemployed youths by promising jobs in government agencies in exchange for money.
Authorities have repeatedly warned that legitimate government recruitment exercises are conducted in accordance with established procedures and are publicly announced through official channels.
The warning serves as a reminder for job seekers to remain vigilant against employment scams.
Verifying information through official government platforms can help protect applicants from financial fraud and identity theft.

Residents Risk Disaster as Crowd Scoops Fuel from Leaking Tanker in Asaba
Dozens of residents were seen rushing to scoop petrol from a leaking tanker along the City Gate area of Asaba, Delta State, despite the obvious risk of a fire outbreak or explosion.
Videos circulating on social media platform X on Thursday showed men and women carrying buckets, jerrycans, and other containers as they crowded around the tanker to collect the fuel spilling onto the road.
The tanker reportedly developed a leak while in transit, attracting a large crowd within minutes as residents attempted to gather the highly flammable product.
The exact cause of the leak had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting, and there was no immediate information on casualties or emergency response.Â
The incident has renewed concerns over the recurring practice of fuel scooping in Nigeria—a dangerous trend that has repeatedly led to fatal tanker explosions across the country.
Despite frequent warnings from emergency agencies, many residents continue to risk their lives by approaching leaking or overturned fuel tankers in an attempt to collect petrol.
Safety experts have consistently cautioned that petrol vapour is highly combustible and can be ignited by a single spark from a vehicle, electrical device, cigarette, or even static electricity.
This means that even where no visible fire is present, a leaking tanker can become the source of a devastating explosion within seconds.
Emergency management authorities and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have repeatedly advised members of the public to immediately vacate the vicinity of leaking fuel tankers and allow trained responders to secure the area.
Similar warnings have followed previous incidents in Delta State and other parts of Nigeria, where emergency personnel had to cordon off accident scenes to prevent residents from scooping fuel.Â
The latest incident also highlights the broader challenge of public risk awareness and economic hardship, which often drives residents to ignore life-threatening dangers in pursuit of free fuel.
In recent years, Nigeria has witnessed several tragic tanker explosions after crowds gathered to scoop spilled petroleum products, resulting in significant loss of life and property.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the leak while continuing public awareness campaigns aimed at discouraging the dangerous practice.

Appeal Court Reverses Judgment Ordering INEC to Deregister ADC, Four Other Political Parties
The Court of Appeal has overturned a judgment of the Federal High Court that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister five political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The appellate court’s decision effectively sets aside the earlier ruling, allowing the affected political parties to retain their registration, subject to the provisions of Nigeria’s electoral laws.
In its ruling, the Court of Appeal held that the earlier judgment directing INEC to deregister the political parties could not stand.
The decision reverses the Federal High Court’s order affecting the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, and three other political parties.
The appellate court’s full reasoning is expected to provide further clarification on the legal issues surrounding the case.
The case centres on the legal status of the affected political parties and INEC’s powers under Nigeria’s electoral framework.
The judgment is expected to influence the political landscape as parties continue preparations for future elections, including activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Legal analysts say the ruling reinforces the role of the appellate courts in reviewing decisions affecting political parties and electoral administration.
The judgment also means the affected parties remain recognised under the current legal framework unless another court decision or lawful regulatory process provides otherwise.
The Court of Appeal’s decision has significant implications for Nigeria’s political system, preserving the participation of the affected parties in the country’s democratic process while clarifying legal questions surrounding party deregistration.

Chinese Envoy Advocates Expanded Mandarin Teaching in Nigerian Schools
The Chinese Consul-General has called for the expansion of Mandarin language education in Nigerian schools, describing it as a pathway to greater educational, cultural and economic opportunities for young Nigerians.
The envoy made the appeal during an education and cultural engagement, stressing that proficiency in Mandarin could help Nigerian students compete in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
According to the Consul-General, learning Mandarin would equip Nigerian students with valuable language skills that could enhance access to scholarships, international education, business opportunities and employment.
He noted that China remains one of Nigeria’s major trading partners and said stronger language and cultural understanding could further deepen bilateral relations between both countries.
The envoy encouraged educational institutions to consider expanding Mandarin programmes as part of efforts to prepare students for global opportunities.
The Chinese diplomat also highlighted ongoing educational exchanges between Nigeria and China, including scholarship programmes, academic partnerships and cultural exchange initiatives.
He expressed optimism that broader language education would strengthen people-to-people ties while fostering cooperation in education, technology and innovation.
Education stakeholders say introducing foreign languages into school curricula can broaden students’ horizons and improve international competitiveness.
However, some analysts argue that while expanding Mandarin education has potential benefits, policymakers should also prioritise strengthening the teaching of Nigeria’s indigenous languages and improving the overall quality of education.
As Nigeria seeks to expand its global economic partnerships, foreign language education is increasingly viewed as a tool for enhancing international competitiveness.
Mandarin proficiency could provide students with additional opportunities in trade, education, diplomacy and technology while complementing existing language programmes.
