AY Comedian Apologises Over Disrupted Cardiff Show, Calls for Ticket Refunds

Published

on

Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY Comedian, has apologised to fans following the disruption of his comedy show in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, blaming unresolved payment commitments for the failure to deliver the advertised performances.

The show, tagged AY Live: Single and Not Searching, was scheduled for Sunday, October 25, at Valegate Retail Park in Cardiff as part of the comedian’s UK tour.

In a statement shared on Instagram on Monday, AY explained that he and other comedians travelled to the venue and eventually gained entry but were unable to perform before most of the audience left.

“My fellow comedians and I travelled to Cardiff to perform and eventually entered the venue. Unfortunately, unresolved payment commitments delayed our appearance, and by the time we arrived at the hall, most of the audience had left,” he said.

The comedian expressed regret over the incident, acknowledging that ticket holders deserved a properly organised event and timely communication from the organisers.

“You deserved a properly organised show and timely information. You should never have been caught in the middle of a payment dispute,” he stated.

AY also urged fans to watch a video in which he presented his account of the incident before drawing conclusions about the circumstances surrounding the disruption.

AY Calls for Refunds for Affected Fans
The comedian called on the event organisers and the UK tour management to provide a clear resolution for affected ticket holders, including details of how they could obtain refunds.

“I am calling on the organisers and our UK tour management to provide a clear resolution for ticket holders, including refund information,” he said.

He added that verified updates would be communicated through his official channels as efforts continued to address the concerns of affected fans.

The disruption reportedly sparked complaints on social media, with some attendees expressing frustration over prolonged waiting and confusion at the venue.

As of Monday, the organisers had yet to publicly provide a detailed explanation of the circumstances surrounding the disruption or announce a formal refund arrangement, leaving ticket holders awaiting further information.

AY’s Remaining UK Tour Dates
Despite the setback in Cardiff, AY said the remaining dates on his UK tour were still scheduled to proceed.

The upcoming performances are billed for Birmingham on October 30, London on October 31, and Manchester on November 1.

The comedian also expressed appreciation to his supporters for helping him build his brand over more than two decades, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining their trust.

The incident has placed attention on the responsibilities of event organisers and tour management teams to ensure that payment arrangements, logistics and communication are properly handled ahead of live entertainment events.

For affected ticket holders, the immediate concern remains obtaining clear information on refunds and receiving confirmation of any further arrangements from the organisers.

Nathaniel Bassey Crosses One Billion YouTube Views, Makes African Gospel Music History

Published

on

Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has surpassed one billion views on YouTube, marking a major digital milestone for Nigerian gospel music and the growing international reach of African worship content.

Statistics from his official YouTube channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, showed that it had accumulated more than 1.014 billion views and approximately 5.24 million subscribers as of Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Independent channel-tracking platforms also recorded the channel crossing the one-billion-view threshold.

The achievement has been widely reported as the first time an African gospel artist has reached the milestone on a single official YouTube channel.

While a comprehensive comparison of every African gospel artist’s channel would be needed to establish that distinction conclusively, Bassey’s billion-view total is independently reflected in available channel statistics.

Created in March 2011, the channel has built its audience through gospel music releases, worship recordings, livestreams and online prayer sessions.

Hallelujah Challenge Drives Global Audience Growth

A major contributor to Bassey’s online reach is the Hallelujah Challenge, an online prayer and worship initiative he founded in 2017.

The programme brings participants together for sessions of midnight praise, worship and prayer.

What began as an online gathering has grown into an international faith-based community, attracting participants from Nigeria and other countries.

YouTube has allowed people who cannot attend physical gatherings to participate through livestreams and watch recorded sessions afterwards.

The format combines music, prayer and collective worship, generating repeated engagement with Bassey’s channel beyond the release cycle of conventional music videos.

The October 2026 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge coincided with the channel’s crossing of the billion-view mark, according to reports published on Sunday.

The programme’s growth also illustrates how digital platforms have expanded the reach of religious activities, allowing worship leaders to build communities that extend beyond church buildings and national borders.

Gospel Songs That Built His Following

Bassey’s music catalogue has also contributed to his growing audience. He is known for worship songs including Imela, Onise Iyanu, Olowogbogboro and You Are God.

The songs have circulated through churches, prayer meetings, personal devotional routines and digital platforms, helping introduce his music to listeners in Nigeria and abroad.

His channel’s total views reflect activity across its catalogue, including music videos, livestreams and other published content. The milestone therefore represents accumulated viewing activity over more than 15 years, rather than the audience for a single song or event.

It is also important to distinguish total views from unique viewers. One person may watch multiple videos or return to the same recording several times, so the figure does not mean that one billion different people have watched his content.

Bassey Says Hallelujah Challenge Is About Worship

The growth of the Hallelujah Challenge has prompted discussion about the potential commercial value of its online audience.

However, Bassey has previously said he does not intend to monetise the YouTube channel for the initiative, maintaining that the programme is focused on worship and spiritual devotion rather than revenue generation.

In an interview published in November 2025, The Guardian Nigeria reported his explanation for keeping the channel unmonetised despite its substantial audience.

That position distinguishes the initiative’s stated spiritual purpose from the commercial opportunities associated with a channel attracting millions of subscribers and billions of views.

The latest milestone does not, by itself, establish how much revenue the channel generates. YouTube view counts alone cannot determine earnings, which depend on factors such as monetisation settings, advertising eligibility and the type of content being viewed.

What the Milestone Means for African Gospel Music

Bassey’s achievement highlights the expanding role of digital platforms in the distribution of African gospel music.

In the past, gospel musicians often depended heavily on churches, radio, television, live performances and physical music sales to reach audiences.

Digital platforms now allow artists to publish music and worship sessions directly to listeners across different countries.

For gospel ministers, this can create an audience that engages with their work between live events and traditional music releases. It also gives listeners access to worship content at different times and from different locations.

Bassey’s channel demonstrates how music and online religious gatherings can complement each other.

His songs provide a continuing catalogue of worship content, while the Hallelujah Challenge creates recurring opportunities for audiences to participate in a shared experience.

The billion-view milestone is therefore not only a personal achievement for Bassey but also an indicator of the scale that Nigerian gospel content can reach through sustained digital publishing and international audience engagement.

A Major Milestone for Nathaniel Bassey

With more than one billion cumulative views and approximately 5.24 million subscribers, Nathaniel Bassey has reached a significant landmark in his digital ministry and music career.

The figures reflect years of consistent content publication, a recognisable catalogue of worship songs and the expansion of the Hallelujah Challenge into a global online gathering.

Although the claim that he is the first African gospel artist to achieve the feat should be understood in the context of available channel-tracking data, the crossing of the one-billion-view threshold is supported by independent analytics platforms.

His achievement underscores the growing reach of Nigerian gospel music and the ability of digital platforms to connect African worship leaders with audiences around the world.

Digboluja Recounts 2023 Clash With Peju Ogunmola Over Prop Gun Scene

Published

on

Yoruba Nollywood actor Taofeek Adewale, popularly known as Digboluja, has recounted his experience with veteran actress Peju Ogunmola following a disagreement over a prop gun scene during a movie production in 2023.

The actor explained that Ogunmola became angry after he fired a prop gun at her during filming, despite his belief that the movie director had informed the actress about the planned action.

The incident resurfaced in a viral video circulating on social media on Monday, showing Ogunmola expressing her displeasure over the unexpected gunshot.

In the video, the actress turned towards Adewale and shook him, questioning why he had pointed a gun at her without prior notice.

“I don’t like it, you know I don’t like it when a gun is pointed at me. You didn’t tell me. I was told he (Adewale) would use an object to hit me. What rubbish!” she said.

Adewale, appearing surprised by her reaction, responded that he had initially been reluctant to pull the trigger because he believed the actress had already been informed.

“At first, I didn’t want to pull the trigger. I thought you had told her,” he said.

Actor Explains What Happened on Set
Speaking in a subsequent interview shared on social media, Adewale explained that his action was based on the script, in which he played the role of a warrior who visited a woman portraying an Iyalode.

According to him, the scene required his character to visit the woman’s house to discuss an issue and persuade her to agree with his position. When she refused, his character was expected to fire a gun.

“I read the movie script; I acted as a warrior. When I went to meet the woman at home to talk to her, and she didn’t oblige, I shot at her,” he said, describing the scripted scene.

The actor said he was aware that Ogunmola was uncomfortable with guns and had raised the issue with the movie director before filming.
“I knew Aunty Peju doesn’t like guns, so I told the movie director. He replied that he had informed her,” Adewale recounted.

He added that the director had indicated that although Ogunmola disliked the use of guns, she would have no problem with the scene if she was adequately prepared for it.

However, Adewale said the actress appeared to have expected a different action during the scene.

According to him, the conversation between the characters proceeded as planned before he fired the prop gun, catching Ogunmola by surprise.

When the interviewer asked what Ogunmola was supposed to do when the gun was fired, Adewale said she was expected to fall to the ground.

Asked why she did not react as the script required, he explained that the unexpected gunshot had startled her.

“She believed I would hit her with an object,” he said, suggesting that the actress had not been adequately informed about the action that was about to take place.

Digboluja Says He Would Have Accepted Her Anger
Adewale also addressed questions about how he would have reacted if Ogunmola had slapped or physically handled him in anger following the incident.

The actor expressed respect for the veteran actress, describing her as a mother figure to him.

“Some people asked me what I would have done if she slapped me or rough-handled me,” he said.

He added that he would not have confronted her over the incident, explaining that he respected her seniority and was also hurt by what had happened.

“If she slapped me 12 times, I won’t say a word. Once she has slapped me thrice, I will run away because she is a mother to me. I was also pained about the incident,” he said.

His account has since generated reactions on social media, with several users praising his calmness while others questioned the role of the movie director and crew members in the misunderstanding.

Social Media Users React
An X user, Eminent Kayode, praised the actor’s handling of the situation, writing, “My respect for this man increased by ten folds.”

Another user, OyinAtiBode, criticised the director, suggesting that the misunderstanding could have been avoided if the actress had been properly briefed before the scene was filmed.

“The director is an evil person who can’t be trusted. He probably deliberately wants them to do it; maybe that will destroy her power.

He used Adewale,” the user wrote, while also praising Ogunmola for remaining respectful despite her anger.

Another X user, Oluwaseun, praised the veteran actress’s character and demeanour.

“Everyone can tell she’s a genuinely good woman…she has the look, she has the temperament, she has the humility, she’s just a superb woman all around,” the user stated.

The resurfaced incident has drawn attention to the importance of clear communication between actors and production crews, particularly when scenes involve potentially startling actions or simulated weapons.

Although Adewale maintained that he acted according to the script and relied on the director’s assurance, the incident highlights how inadequate communication before filming can lead to misunderstandings, even during staged movie scenes.
