NAFDAC Enforces Sachet Alcohol Ban, Shuts Down Three Factories in Ogun
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified enforcement of the Federal Government’s ban on the production and sale of sachet alcohol by shutting down three manufacturing factories in Ogun State.
The agency said the action forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with regulations aimed at protecting public health and reducing alcohol abuse, particularly among young people.
According to NAFDAC, the affected factories were sealed during an enforcement operation after they were found to be violating existing regulations on sachet and small-volume alcoholic beverages.
The agency said the enforcement exercise is part of a nationwide campaign to ensure manufacturers comply with the ban and other safety standards.
NAFDAC warned manufacturers, distributors and retailers against producing or selling alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets or small containers in violation of regulatory directives.
The agency stressed that offenders risk sanctions, including the closure of facilities, seizure of products and possible prosecution.
Officials urged businesses in the sector to comply fully with all regulatory requirements to avoid penalties.
NAFDAC has consistently maintained that the restrictions on sachet alcohol are intended to curb excessive alcohol consumption, especially among underage persons and vulnerable groups.
The agency believes stricter regulation of alcohol packaging will contribute to improved public health outcomes and responsible consumption.
The enforcement action signals NAFDAC’s determination to implement regulations governing alcohol sales in Nigeria.
It also serves as a warning to manufacturers and distributors that non-compliance with public health regulations could attract severe sanctions.

Anambra Dismisses Claims of Substandard Roads, Promises Free Repairs
The Anambra State Government has dismissed allegations that roads constructed under Governor Chukwuma Soludo are substandard, describing criticisms circulating on social media as politically motivated.
The state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Okey Ezeobi, said the administration’s road construction projects remained largely intact, with more than 95 per cent of completed roads reportedly in good condition.
Ezeobi stated this on Wednesday during a press briefing in Awka, where he addressed public concerns over the quality and condition of roads constructed across the state under the Soludo administration. He added that some Federal Government road projects had equally experienced similar challenges due to the impact of the rainfall.
The commissioner said the state government would remove damaged asphalt from affected sections and introduce cement-based stabilisation to address underground water problems and prevent further deterioration.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, while also noting that the South-East had benefited from Federal Government interventions in road construction and infrastructure investment.
