One Killed, Four Arrested Over Farmers-Herders Clash in Bauchi
One person has died and several houses have been burnt following a clash between farmers and herders in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, with the police arresting four suspects in connection with the incident.
The deceased, identified as 40-year-old Usman Jibrin, reportedly died while receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the confrontation.
The Bauchi State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.
According to the police, the incident occurred on September 23, 2026, when three farmers from Guda Village went to their farms on Guda Hill and discovered that cattle belonging to a herder were grazing on and destroying their crops.
Habib said the farmers subsequently chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement, where an argument broke out and escalated into a physical confrontation, leaving the three farmers injured.
He explained that the situation deteriorated further when some youths from Guda Village allegedly mobilised in retaliation and set houses in the herders’ settlement ablaze.
The police spokesman said operatives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters responded promptly to the incident, restored normalcy and evacuated the injured to the General Hospital, Ningi, for medical attention.
However, one of the injured farmers later died while receiving treatment.
The statement quoted Habib as saying, “On September 23, 2026, at about 0740hrs, three farmers from Guda Village went to their farms on Guda Hill and found cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops.
“They chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement, where an argument ensued and degenerated into a fight. In the process, the three farmers sustained injuries.
“Sadly, in retaliation, some youths from Guda Village mobilised and set ablaze houses at the herders’ settlement.”
Police Arrest Four Suspects
Habib disclosed that four suspects were arrested on October 8, 2026, following intelligence-led operations by police operatives.
He said the suspects were arrested in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire and culpable homicide.
“Through intelligence-led efforts, our operatives have, on October 8, 2026, arrested four suspects in connection with the offences of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire and culpable homicide,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a thorough and discreet investigation.
According to the police spokesman, the commissioner also commiserated with the family of the deceased and those who lost property in the incident.
Aliyu assured residents that the command would ensure that those found culpable were brought to justice, warning against taking the law into one’s hands.
He was quoted as assuring the public that “no one will be allowed to take the law into his own hands.”
Police Urge Farmers, Herders to Embrace Peace
The police commissioner urged communities across Bauchi State to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence, particularly between farmers and herders, to prevent similar incidents.
The clash highlights the potential for disputes over farmland and livestock grazing to escalate into violence, with consequences for lives, property and relations between neighbouring communities.
The command urged residents to resolve disagreements through lawful channels rather than resorting to retaliation, while assuring the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.
The police said investigations into the incident were ongoing.

Police Arrest 27-Year-Old Mother Over Newborn’s Death in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, in connection with the alleged killing of her newborn baby in the Jabi area of Abuja.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the arrest followed the discovery of the lifeless body of a male infant in a bush near Jabi.
According to the command, police operatives received a distress call at about 10:30pm on October 4, 2026, reporting an abandoned baby in the area.
Adeh said operatives immediately mobilised to the scene, where they found the infant with severe injuries.
The baby was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but medical personnel confirmed that he was dead.
Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered a manhunt for the person responsible for the infant’s death.
The police said community members assisted operatives in tracing Yohanna, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who resides in the Daki-Biu/Jabi area of Abuja.
Preliminary investigation, according to the command, revealed that the suspect gave birth to the baby inside her room on October 3, 2026, at about 4pm.
Police alleged that she subsequently inflicted fatal injuries on the newborn with a razor blade.
The command said the suspect admitted to the act during questioning, allegedly citing hatred for the baby’s father as her reason.
The police condemned the incident, describing it as a “grave and unacceptable violation of the sanctity of human life.”
The command also commended residents who assisted in identifying and arresting the suspect, while assuring the public that the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death would be thoroughly investigated.
Yohanna remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations, the police said.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, activities or incidents to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
The incident comes months after the Enugu State Government arrested Ogechi John over the alleged killing of her nine-year-old stepdaughter, Amanda John.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force following the death of the child, who was reportedly beaten at their residence in Nchatancha, Emene, Enugu East Local Government Area.

Police Repel Bandit Attacks in Katsina, Rescue Three Kidnap Victims
The Katsina State Police Command has repelled separate bandit attacks in Kankia and Musawa Local Government Areas of the state, rescuing three kidnapped victims, recovering 12 rustled cows and neutralising one suspected bandit.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, and made available to journalists in Katsina on Wednesday.
According to the police, the first incident occurred at about 9:30pm on October 6, when suspected armed bandits attacked Fakuwa village in Kankia Local Government Area.
The attackers were said to have kidnapped three residents and rustled about 12 cows during the assault.
Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Kankia, quickly mobilised a combined team of police operatives and local vigilantes to respond to the attack.
The security team reportedly traced the fleeing bandits and intercepted them, leading to a prolonged gun battle.
The police said the sustained engagement forced the attackers to abandon their operation and retreat into the forest, with some of them suspected to have sustained gunshot wounds.
The three kidnapped victims were subsequently rescued unharmed, while all 12 rustled cows were recovered.
The victims have since been reunited with their families, according to the command.
In a separate incident, suspected bandits reportedly barricaded the Kiryoyi-Dangani Road in Musawa Local Government Area at about 1:30am on Wednesday.
The DPO Musawa, acting on a distress call, led personnel of the Vigilance and Community Response Unit, VCRU, to the area.
On arrival, the security team engaged the suspected bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to flee from the area.
The police subsequently launched a cordon and search operation around the area and recovered the body of one suspected bandit.
A machete was reportedly found beside the body.
The command said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest other suspects who escaped into the surrounding area.
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the police personnel and other security operatives involved in the operations for what he described as their “gallantry and professionalism.”
Fage also urged residents across the state to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities.
He stressed the importance of community cooperation in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.
The command similarly advised residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police and other security agencies.
The latest operations come amid continued security challenges in parts of Katsina State.
In September, the state police command also reported repelling a bandit attack in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area, where four kidnapped victims were rescued and an AK-47 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was recovered.
The victims were abducted after armed bandits attacked Makwanta village in the early hours of the day.
The Katsina police command said it would continue to intensify operations against bandits and other criminal elements across the state while urging residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies.

The command said the suspects were arrested in connection with the alleged vandalism of a solar street light, road traffic signs and materials belonging to the Enugu State Water Corporation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Ndukwe, two of the suspects, Wisdom Nuhu and Moses Jonathan, were arrested on September 27, 2026, at about 8:30pm following a tip-off.
He said the suspects were sighted negotiating the sale of a suspected stolen solar street light at a scrap dump in New Artisan Market, Enugu.
Following the information, operatives from the New Haven Police Division moved to the location and arrested the two men, while the solar street light was recovered.

The arrest followed a distress alert from the Enugu State Command and Control Centre.
The police spokesperson said Nwigbo and another accomplice, who escaped from the scene, were detected by the security surveillance system while allegedly removing road traffic signs.
Several vandalised road signs bearing different inscriptions were recovered from the suspect.
In another operation conducted on September 15, operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested two other suspects identified as Zubairu Hamanpedimso, 31, and Mohamed Adamu, 21.
The duo were allegedly involved in a conspiracy to vandalise and steal materials belonging to the Enugu State Water Corporation.
According to the police, a bag containing iron materials, bolts and nuts allegedly vandalised and stolen from the corporation was recovered from the suspects.
Ndukwe said all five suspects had been arraigned before a court and remanded in correctional custody pending further hearing.
